anyway...back to the beginning...

Seven years ago I started my first company, Sublime Science, from my parents' spare room with a £1,750 Prince's Trust loan.  I was 23 years old.  I'd never run a business before, didn't even know anyone who had.  I had no idea what I was doing but was (and still am!) irrationally passionate about making science awesome for kids.

The last seven years have been mind-boggling.  That £1,750 Prince's Trust loan has been repaid and I no longer have to live and work out of my parents' spare room.  They're at least as thrilled as me. 😉

Even better than that there's been some real highs along the way (among all the hard work) - the highest of those highs was being awarded a Queen's Award for Enterprise from Her Majesty the Queen. (still feels surreal just typing that!)

I've also grown Sublime Science from an idea in my mind to a 7 figure national company.  Along the way I won a Great British Entrepreneur Award.  Been recognised as Young Entrepreneur of the Year.  I secured investment on Dragons' Den and have learnt so much working with (Dragons!) Nick Jenkins and Sarah Willingham.  I've even been labelled "a visionary" by Forbes.  But far more importantly I've made science awesome for more than half a million children in the process!

As the success of Sublime Science started to build, more and more people reached out for help.  I was asked to share a few ideas on business and entrepreneurship with the Institute of Directors, the Prince's Trust and the University of Nottingham.

I realised I'm just as passionate about helping people succeed in business as I am about making science awesome which is why this website was created.

So many people have reached out for help so I carved out some time, gulped down a frankly ridiculous amount of black coffee and put Awesome Business Formula together.  It's completely free and a way for me to give others the exact help I wish I'd had when I first started my own business.

1. I'm not a guru!!!!

I love people who are passionate about what they do and I want to help.  Over the past seven years so many people have reached out and it's been an absolute honour to be able to help. That's why I've carved out the time to write this book. I have literally nothing to sell.  Not a thing.  If I read one more blog post from another hyped-up, self-righteous guru about how one magic secret will change everything I might actually cry.  In Awesome Business Formula I just want to share a few ideas that have radically changed my life in the hope that they're a help to you.

1. The good ol' Scientific method.

Sounds fancy doesn't it?  All that really means is that my approach is "evidence based".  Everyone likes to have an opinion on pretty much everything, but if you're anything like me, you're far more interested in results than hot-air.  There's no theory here.  Just stuff that's worked for me.  It's worked for other business owners too but I WON'T ask you to believe me.  Keep a healthy dose of scepticism. Test out ideas and find what works for you.
